
Begüm Tekakpınar is a singer-songwriter, recording artist and multi-instrumentalist hailing from the sunny Mediterranean island of Cyprus, now based in Hamburg. Known for her fusion of pop and world music influences, Begüm also plays piano, flute and ukulele. Through her instruments and songwriting, she weaves stories that explore both personal and societal themes, often blending various art forms to bring her characters and narratives to life on stage.
In January 2025, she won the Grand Prix award with her original song CHAINS at The World Association of Festivals (WAF) music contest in Macedonia. In 2024, she was a finalist at the Young Talent Award singer-songwriter competition in the Netherlands, and in 2023, she won first place with her original song Are You Up Above? at the Meikin Asia International Music Competition in Kyrgyzstan.
A passionate storyteller, Begüm wrote and produced The Voice of the Unseen, the original soundtrack for The Divided Island, an award-winning documentary now streaming on Amazon Prime, acclaimed for its "Powerful Message for Peace" and "Best Cinematography" at the Cyprus International Film Festival in 2024.
With two master’s degrees in music, including a Jazz & Pop Vocal Performance degree from ArtEZ University in the Netherlands, Begüm’s artistic journey spans a wide array of genres. She collaborates with producers and composers worldwide, primarily contributing her vocals and flute to a range of productions, film scores, and soundtracks, while also writing songs for diverse projects. In addition, she was commissioned to write and record the official jingle for the Northern Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry, and have created jingles for other well-established companies.
Her performance credits include a performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam in July 2024 and a notable appearance with the orchestra of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, where she debuted her original song at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku in October 2023.
